The Board of Trustees are a five member board made up of elected officials with four year terms that make up the Governing Body. The Planning Commission is a five member Board with one alternate position appointed by the Board of Trustees. It shall be their function and duty to make and adopt plans for the physical development of the Municipality including a one mile jurisdiction area, this includes Replats, Subdivision Regulations, Comprehensive Plan and Planning & Zoning Regulations. The Planning Commission sends recommendations to the Board of Trustees for final approval. The regularly scheduled meetings are the third Monday of each month at 7:00 p.m. For more information on the Planning Commission see the Code book section 2-108 through 2-111.

The Library Board is a five member Board appointed by the Board of Trustees. The Library Board meets quarterly as determined by the Board. The Library Board has the authority to hire a Librarian and all other employees. It shall be the duty of the Board to have general charge of the Library and to establish appropriate rules and regulations for the management, operation, and use of the same. All actions of the Board shall be subject to the review and supervision of the Governing Body. For more information on the Library Board see the Code Book section 2-104.

The Housing authority is a five member board appointed by the Board of Trustees. The Housing Authority shall have all the powers necessary or convenient to carry out and effectuate the purposes and provisions of the Nebraska Housing Authority Law. They establish the rules and regulations for eligible applicants of occupancy for Sandy Acres. The Housing Authority meets at their discretion. The Board of Adjustments is a five member board with two alternates consisting of the Chairman of the Planning Commission and the others at large as appointed by the Board of Trustees. The Board of Adjustments meets as needed or as directed by the Board of Trustees. The Board shall have the following powers; to hear appeals where error is alleged, to hear and decide in accordance with the provision of any zoning regulations, request for interpretation of any map, grant Variances, may reverse or affirm, wholly or in part, and shall have all the powers of the officer from whom the appeal is taken.

The Board of Health is a five member Board composed of the Chairman of the Governing body, Village Law Enforcement Officer, Medical Profession representative, Village Fire Chief, and one member at large. This Board meets as designated by the Board of Trustees. It shall be the duty of the Board of Health to enact rules and regulations to safeguard the health of the residents of Sutherland and to enforce such rules and regulations. The Board shall regularly inspect such premises and businesses as the Governing Board may direct. All actions of the Board of Health shall be subject to review and supervision of the Governing Body. The Tree Board is a five member Board appointed by the Board of Trustees. It is the responsibility of the Tree Board to study, investigate, counsel and develop a written plan for the care, preservation, trimming, planting, replanting, removal or disposition of trees and shrubs in the public parks, public right of ways, streets and alleys. The Tree Board also does an Arbor Day Presentation for a class at school and usually plants trees on Arbor Day. Thanks to the Tree Board the Village of Sutherland has been named Tree City USA for several years. For more information on the Tree Board see the Code book section 2-113.

The Growth Committee is a 5 member board appointed by the Board of Trustees. It shall be the responsibility of the Growth Committee to make recommendations to the Board of Trustees of programs, ideas and suggestions which will enhance economic development and growth within the Village and to promote jobs, business, education and residential development. Their regularly scheduled meetings are the second Tuesday of each month at 7:00 p.m. For more information, see section 2-115 of the Code Book.
